Time for the Summer 2023 roundup of everything amazing that has been happening!
The biggest accomplishment is The Untended Garden book is finally completed. US Preorders are now open! I can’t wait for everyone to see what a beautiful labor of love that this has been. I’m so appreciative of my contributors, Dr. Anita Bates and Sarah Ayers, for their beautiful essays about my work. The book will be in an edition of 250, with 15 books set aside for a special edition with a print from Act I - more info coming soon! Link to the US Presale!
Two pieces from The Untended Garden - Act I are currently being shown at the Scarab Club in Detroit, MI as a part of their 52nd Annual Contemporary Photography Exhibition. Shanna Merola juried the exhibition and it has to be one of the best and most innovative contributions to the photography landscape in the city. I’m honored to be a part of it.
I was honored to be a part of multiple amazing exhibitions during the spring.
Curator Mark Sink included my work in two Denver Month of Photography Exhibitions: Conceptual Photography Exhibition at D’Art Gallery and the Big Picture Colorado. I will have more information soon about where my Big Picture image will be located as public art in Denver!
Curator Sarah Ayers took six series of my work on the road to the Affordable Art Fair NYC as a part of Patch and Remington’s partnership with Arbor3 Arts! The Siren Collection was selected as a part of the New York Spring: Fair Directors Picks and featured during the Female Focus for Women’s History Month.
My work was also a part of a two person exhibition at Patch and Remington: From NYC to Marcellus - Mara Magyarosi-Laytner and Martyna Alexander. It was wonderful to see the response that the city of Marcellus had to our NYC exhibition!
Here are the beautiful things coming up:
Olivia Ezinga and I are coming back to Patch and Remington this August for our two person exhibition. I’m so excited to be paired with an artist who explores femininity in a way that will complement The Untended Garden work perfectly! Our opening will be on First Friday, August 4th.
I have been keeping this a bit quiet, but Raymar and I are in the midst of starting a photography and film festival for Detroit in July 2024. NOVA24 | Photo + Film Festival will be hosting a community meeting at The Congregation Detroit on Tuesday, August 1st from 6-8pm. Anyone who has an interest in the festival is welcome to attend. Silver Water Collective - Sterling Presence Redux

July 2022 - We are so excited to announce our next SWC exhibition, Sterling Presence Redux, at Patch & Remington (@patchandremington) in Marcellus, MI.

History, memory, identity, time, decolonization, and perception are explored in the exhibition Sterling Presence Redux featured at Patch & Remington from Silver Water Collective. Each featured artist employs a particular process and technique that challenges the boundaries of traditional photography in her work.
While each artist comes from a unique experience and perspective, photography helps them to communicate their shared internal struggles as women in contemporary society and art.

SPE 10th Annual Combined Caucus Exhibition

June 2022 - Two images from The Untended Garden have been included as a part of the SPE 10th Annual Combined Caucus Exhibition this year! It’s such an honor to be included along with other photography educators across the country in this beautiful virtual exhibit.

SCAD Atlanta Digital Screens - Public Art

June 2022 - One of the most beautiful adventures of the drive home from Savannah after graduation was being able to stop and see the digital screens at SCAD Atlanta. The six digital screens featured ten foot tall images from The Untended Garden for 15 minutes each on rotation along with four other SCAD artists. We were selected by the curators at SCAD Art Sales and Paula Wallace, the president of SCAD, for this public art exhibition throughout the month of June.
This was an incredible way to culminate my experience as a SCAD MFA student. I can’t wait for more potential collaborations with public art and SCAD in the future!

April 2022 - The Untended Garden MFA Thesis Exhibition at Cedar House Gallery in Savannah, Georgia was an incredible success! Here are some selected images from the exhibition opening on Friday, April 1st, 2022.
So incredibly grateful for all of the help, love, and support that I received throughout the entire process of this endeavor. This was an absolute labor of love.

Alternative Narratives - Women's History Month

April 2022 - Alternative Processes selected images from The Untended Garden to be a part of their exhibit Alternative Narratives in celebration of Women’s History Month.
The group of exhibitors were narrowed down from 190 submissions, which raised and donated 2.440€ to Red Cross Ukraine.

The Untended Garden - MFA Thesis Exhibition

March 2022 - The Untended Garden MFA Thesis Exhibition will be held at Cedar House Gallery in Savannah, Georgia!
The opening reception will be held on Friday, April 1st, 2022 from 6-9pm. This coincides with First Friday, so this is a wonderful opportunity to add Cedar House Gallery into the gallery explorations of the evening!
This is the first time that all three Acts of the work will be shown - the work will be available for future exhibitions after the show is completed. Hope to see you there!

March 2022 - “The Untended Garden - Gaze” and “The Untended Garden - Flutter” will be included in the LoosenArt Gallery exhibition Auto Focus. A Portrait of the Self at Millepiani in Rome, Italy. The exhibition runs June 8-16th!
Other notable artists included in the exhibition are Man (Jane) Zhu and Silver Water Collective artist Cristina Casiano!

Feminine / Masculine - PH21 Gallery, Budapest, Hungary

February 2022 - “The Untended Garden - Failure of Purpose” and “The Untended Garden - To Pluck” were chosen to be a part of the Feminine / Masculine international exhibition at the PH21 Gallery in Budapest, Hungary!
Additionally, “The Untended Garden - Failure of Purpose” was also chosen to be one of three honorable mentions for the exhibit!
The exhibition runs from February 10 – March 5, 2022!

Aeonian Magazine is a publication dedicated to celebrating experimental photography. Through Instagram, they have created a community of photographers interested in all things experimental-- polaroids, cyanotypes, tintypes, film, and so much more.

The magazine, started in Manchester, UK, explores the notion of balance in existing micro- and macro- environments through a fusion of poetry, chemigrams, photography, words, illustration, design from waste, and VR. According to Floresta, “Balance is ambiguous, delicate, and interconnected.”

Gaze Exhibition - All SHE Makes and Arts To Hearts Project

September 2021 - The Untended Garden is featured in a virtual exhibition curated in partnership between All SHE Makes Magazine and the Arts to Hearts Project.
“Women are often subjected to a gaze which shapes their identity. This gaze is from men, other women, and society at large which makes a woman feel conscious about herself. It signifies a woman to be The Other as she is excluded from the community. The theme for the exhibition is this ‘gaze’, of being a woman, a woman of colour, a person identifying as a woman, an outsider, and any other way of depicting hierarchy.
Our goal is to document multiple varied voices leading to a strong single female voice by showcasing various perspectives/experiences of defining this “Gaze”. This exhibit with international womxn artists is an attempt to construct a visual and vocal message with the support of art & women artists. Documentation of ‘the gaze’ that has stopped them, broken them, hurt them, and also set the fire in them to come forward.”
